Koenig & Bauer on-site vocational school celebrates 150 years

Some 200 guests, staff and pupils celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Koenig & Bauer on-site vocational school in Würzburg on 6 July 2018. Initially founded to train Franconian winegrowers to work in the factory, today the school is the company’s modern “talent factory”. The close link between theory and practice was a successful model that made history: in 1868 Koenig & Bauer set up the world's first in-house vocational school to establish dual apprenticeships long before state vocational schools took off. “As a new-generation teaching facility, today the vocational training school prepares tomorrow’s skilled workers for the challenges of a digitalised world,” says Claus Bolza-Schünemann, president and CEO of Koenig & Bauer at the ceremony in Würzburg.

MPS develops training courses for operators and engineers

MPS has developed new training courses exclusively for operators and engineers. They’re developed to improve flexo operating skills, share current developments in the printing industry, and increase press productivity. The 3-day programs for operators and 5-day programs for engineers will be held at the MPS Technology & Expertise Centre in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

For the third time, more than 800 visitors from all over the world attended the Gallus Innovation Days that took place from 26 to 28 June. The event was held at the headquarters of Gallus a member of the Heidelberg Group, in St. Gallen, Main attraction of the event was clearly the premiere of the new digital label press Gallus Smartfire. Further innovations in the field of inline applications on the renowned conventional and digital Gallus presses also attracted many guests.

Caldera RIP successfully certified for HP Latex R-series

French software company Caldera can confirm that it’s market-leading RIP, Caldera Version 11.2, has qualified for full certification for driving the HP Latex R series of printers. The HP RIP certification is awarded to differentiate RIP partners who reach a specific and superior level of integration, compatibility and performance with the HP device in question. Only third-party companies that can demonstrate conformity across a range of criteria are awarded HP Latex certified status. The certification recognizes that Version 11.2 can fully support HP Latex R series printers for functionalities including printing performance, media management, printer reporting, job generation, job management and application center integration.

Avery Dennison shortlisted for label industry global awards 2018

Shortlisted as one of three finalists, Avery Dennison received the nomination for its recent introduction of a Sustainability Procurement Program, a collaborative evaluation platform providing sustainability ratings and performance improvement tools for the company’s global supply chain. The program rates suppliers in four key areas of activity: environmental, fair business, supply chain, and labor practice. The program’s overall objective is to engage suppliers in a continuous improvement process related to sustainability.

ISE to relocate to Barcelona in 2021

Integrated Systems Events, the producers of the Integrated Systems Europe exhibition, has announced that its 2021 edition will be held at Gran Via, part of the Fira de Barcelona exhibition complex in Spain on 2-5 February. The new venue will become the permanent location for the world’s largest AV and systems integration show.

S.E.M. and Koenig & Bauer enter alliance

Koenig & Bauer is expanding its product portfolio in response to service business expansions and strong customer demand. In cooperation with S.E.M. Servicegesellschaft, the press manufacturer will offer almost all services concerning printing presses to customers in the future. “We have worked well and successfully with S.E.M. in the past and building on this partnership was the next logical step. Our customers want the opportunity to have one contact person for their entire print shop. We can now offer this together with S.E.M.,” says Thomas Potzkai, head of service at Koenig & Bauer.

Xeikon 8500 supports Colorisprint’s flexible production

Belgium digital print service provider Colorisprint is celebrating this year its 20th year in operation, supported throughout by Xeikon technology including a Xeikon 8500. Founded in 1998, Colorisprint’s first digital press was an Agfa Chromapress 320 with a Xeikon OEM engine. That year it also invested in a large format plotter.

Avery Dennison Corporation announced the appointment of Pascale Wautelet as the global vice president of Research and Development (R&D) for its Label and Graphic Materials group, effective immediately. She succeeds Hassan H. Rmaile, who was promoted earlier in the year as vice president and general manager for Global Graphics and Reflective Solutions and vice president, Global Technology and Ventures for Avery Dennison.

KYOCERA continues growth in data management with acquisition of software provider Alos

KYOCERA has completed the purchase of Alos Solution, one of the leading system providers of capture and Enterprise Content Management solutions (ECM) in German-speaking countries. Alos possess over 100 employees based in Germany and Switzerland, providing solutions to several thousand customers across the globe.

Smurfit Kappa completes acquisition of Reparenco

Smurfit Kappa Group is pleased to announce that it has completed the acquisition of Reparenco, a paper and recycling business in the Netherlands. The acquisition represents a transaction multiple, pre-synergies, of 6.4x Reparenco's 2018 expected full year EBITDA of ?72million. Reparenco's strong strategic fit with SKG's existing European businesses is expected to deliver synergies of in excess of ?30 million. Including synergies, the acquisition multiple is less than 4.5x EBITDA.

Currently, the company is starting implementation of KODAK SONORA X Process Free Plates - the next generation of Kodak’s process free plates offering.

Bosch plans to sell its packaging business

After intensively and thoroughly considering all its strategic options, Bosch has decided to look for a buyer for its packaging machinery business (PA), more specifically the pharmaceuticals and food units of the Packaging Technology division. With the Bosch Group needing to focus on the transformation ahead, it has not identified any sufficiently relevant synergy effects in terms of business or technology that might offer the division prospects for the future within Bosch.

First promising assessment for the European Ecolabel stationery

The EU Ecolabel for converted paper products is the only official pan-European Ecolabel committed to reducing the impact of converted paper products on the environment. Established in 2014, it offers a single European reference for eco-responsible converted paper products, including stationery products, paper envelopes and paper carrier bags. It is part of the EU Ecolabel scheme, which is managed by the European Commission and by authorities in every EU Member State, and is a voluntary and transparent scheme certified by an independent third party.

ITMA returns to Milan following successful showing in 2015

Rondo AG based in Allschwil near Basel (Switzerland), part of the international Körber Group in Hamburg, is conducting the world’s first beta test in the area of pharmaceutical packaging with the Primefire 106. The digital printing system of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has been installed at Rondo since April 2018, where it is the final piece in the packaging specialist’s Supply on Demand solution. “The trends in the pharmaceutical industry are heading towards ever declining runs and shorter delivery times in response to personalized medicine, increasing language and country versions and much shorter delivery times for medicines,” confirms Joachim Hoeltz, CEO of Rondo AG. “Our production consists entirely of secondary packaging. Through process automation and close IT integration we offer our customers a just-in-time service and by doing so help them to optimize their own supply chain.”
